Acolytes

The lighting of the candles in the worship service is a symbol of Jesus’ coming into the presence of the worshipping community.  Before the extinguishing of the last candle, the acolyte relights their “candle lighter” and then processes out into the narthex. This symbolizes that Jesus Christ is for all people everywhere. It also symbolizes the light of Jesus Christ going out into the world where believers are called to serve and to take Jesus’ word. This is Lydia Chambers lighting the candles. Each Sunday we have acolytes to light and extinguish the candles in each service.

Highland Heights loves children and offers Sunday School classes from nursery through High School. There is a Children’s Time during the worship services and at the 11:00 service, children age 4 – 2nd grade go to Children’s Church for lessons and activities. Wednesday Night Kids offers another opportunity for the younger children to have Bible Study and activities. Today’s youth often face critical decisions during this time in their lives. We want to be there to help in forming strong foundations and fellowship to help them discover real answers for those real issues through music, prayer, Bible Study, service activities, retreats, mission trips and recreation. Junior Youth (6-8 grades) and Senior Youth (high school) are under the leadership of Jason Gatlin, our Youth Director.

During the year there are many other activities for kids, such as Vacation Bible School, the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat & The Children’s Christmas program with a reception following and a special visitor comes to see all the good little boys and girls just to name and few of the activities.
